A Word About Zone Hardiness

All plants grow better in certain types of climates than others. Those areas are determined by "zones" in the US. 

The United States National Arboretum has a nicely detailed Zone Hardiness Chart where you can find exactly what zone you live in by clicking here.

In the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, we are in Zone 5. Hence, the plants featured on Cool Native do well in Zone 5. But they may grow in your zone as well. So, where possible and to the best of our knowledge, we will indicate all zones where the plant in question will prosper.
